Who We Serve

One billion people, or 15% of the world’s population, experience some form of disability, and disability prevalence is higher for developing countries.

One-fifth of the estimated global total, or between 110 million and 190 million people, experience significant disabilities.

In the spring of 2021 about 318,000 beneficiaries were participating in Ticket to Work, and more than 1.5 million people have been through the program since its launch in 2002.

Ticket To Work

Estimates suggest that persons with disabilities have a combined $1.2T annual disposable income worldwide.

Varying
Degrees of Disability

Disability originates in so many ways, genetic, disease, accidents, war, work, mental, and many others.

Ticket to Work is a free and voluntary program offered by Social Security serving people 18 through 64 who receive Social Security disability benefits and who are interested in returning to work or working for the first time.

If you are making good progress toward your employment goal, Social Security will not review your case to see if you still have a disability.

Not only that, but you may continue to access your cash and Medicare and/or Medicaid health care benefits as you transition to full-time work; and you may be able to return to benefits if you are no longer able to work due to your disability.

At one time a person on SSDI or SSI COULD NOT WORK at all. You were either disabled or not. This approach  robbed millions of people who truly had wonderful talents and abilities to offer to their community from enriching their lives and the lives of others.

Lifeworx serves a wide variety of people with disabilities. Our family includes cancer survivors, traumatic brain injury, mental illness, neurodiversity, heart transplant, kidney transplant, and also multiple disabilities.

I have seen firsthand the transformative power of people being able to return to work. I have also seen the devastation caused by a person with a disability not being given the opportunity to engage in meaningful activity.

From the Big Historical Picture to the singular individual and their family/support system the toll of a disability is truly immeasurable.

The flip side of that coin is that the potential for fulfillment, improvement, benefiting ourselves as well as others, making real substantial gains as an individual and those positive changes rippling out into the community to create real change are also immeasurable.

By participating in the Ticket to Work program you have so much more than just income to gain.

People with a disability create such a diverse and dynamic panorama of life.
